Developing Your Leadership Theory of Practice: A Special Conversation with Tim Dalmau and Steve Zuieback

The most powerful leaders have an explicit "theory of practice" that they consciously operate from as they make decisions, how they engage in challenging situations and how they build and coach other people. A theory of practice is a set of assumptions, hypotheses, and principles that have been developed through their experience about what works and doesn't work. This workshop will take participants through a series of experiences, dialogues and coaching conversations that will result in a completed theory of practice for each person. Participants will receive a packet of information prior to the course to better prepare for the 2-day experience.

This MasterClass is for leaders and executives in any setting, be it education, health care, manufacturing, or professional services. No matter where or how you lead people this MasterClass will provide you with  benefits, insights, and skills. The role of leaders in the positive transformation of whole systems will be a core aspect of this event.

Master Class Design:

  • We will explore various leadership models that have proven to be successful across multiple industry sectors.
  • Examine the work of leadership through the exploration of real issues faced by the participants in the session.
  • Small and large group conversation formats.
  • Some lecture will be involved, however, the greatest emphasis will be placed on dialogue, inquiry, assessment and synthesis.
  • Class size will be limited to 20 participants to assure maximum learning and to focus on the real issues faced by the participants.

Steve Zuieback is president of Synectics and a member of Dalmau Consulting based in Australia. Steve has extensive consulting and training experience with private business, governmental organizations, schools, communities and non-profit organizations in the areas of leadership, creative planning, change implementation, team development, and community building.

Steve's professional activities take him around the country and around the world. He has worked with Kaiser Permanente, BHP, ALSOC, Coles Group, Transport South Australia, Fletcher Building, Los Angeles County Office of Education, Riverside County Office of Education, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and over 50 school district in intensive leadership development and planning sessions. The key focus of work is in the area of building deep leadership and facilitation capacity within large organizations, especially in educational systems. 

Steve has written Leadership Practices for Challenging Times, Facilitation Skills for Chaotic Times Process Flash Cards and the soon to be released e-book, Diagnosis: From Theory to Practice.

Steve lives in Ukiah, California with his wife Joyce Paterson and he is very involved as a community volunteer in Mendocino County. He is one of several founders of MendoFutures, which is a volunteer-based organization that facilitates community dialogue and solutions on environmental, economic and social issues in Mendocino county.
